Obituary
It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Ann Carley Graham (nee Augusta), announce her passing on December 28, 2021.
Ann will be forever loved and cherished by her devoted husband of 34 years Dr. Neil Graham of Black Diamond, her sister and best friend Ellen Kjolberg of Calgary, her children Kristin (Trevor) Hauser of Chestermere, Patti McGill of Calgary, Carla (Richard) Link of Calgary, Tara (Tom) Sebulsky of Kelowna, and Paul Graham of Edmonton, her grandchildren Carley, Daniel, Camryn, Corey, Grace, Lukas, Julianna, Carter and Sydney and her newborn great grandson Carter Andrew James, along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, all of whom meant the world to her. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Ralph and Emily (nee Kinnaird) Augusta, brothers John Augusta and Frank Augusta, first husband Daniel McGill and infant daughter Mary Ann.
Ann was born in Shellbrook, SK and lived as a young girl in Prince Albert and Lac La Ronge, SK. She moved with her parents to Camrose, AB where she attended high school. After graduating with her RN in 1960, she moved to Colorado Springs, CO where she worked as a registered nurse at an eye care centre. In 1963, she and her young family returned to Canada where she worked in numerous communities across the country, from Vancouver to Halifax. Ann’s drive and desire to help people lead her to pursue her BSc in nursing in 1973, her MSc in 1979, and ultimately her PhD in educational psychology in 1982. She had a long and successful career in Calgary at the General Hospital, the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and in private practice before pursuing a new opportunity in Red Deer. Her decision to move to Red Deer proved to be her destiny as that’s where she met and fell in love with Neil Graham. They were married on January 16, 1988 and lived many happy years in Red Deer where Ann continued her career in private practice. She continued to work well past retirement age to the benefit of her grateful clients. In 2012, Ann and Neil retired to Black Diamond where they built their dream home and Ann became involved in multiple community activities.
A devoted and loving grandmother, Ann was an enthusiastic supporter of her grandchildren’s numerous activities and beamed with pride over their many accomplishments. She and Neil travelled far and wide to attend as many games, meets and events as they were able to. She was indisputably their number one fan.
Ann had many talents and interests; a life-long love of knitting that gave her so much pleasure creating sweaters, hats, outfits and her famous afghans for family and friends. She was a very capable firearms shooter and competitor, a hobby that she and Neil enjoyed together, travelling as far as the Philippines to participate in competitions. At the age of 70 Ann pursued her dream of learning to play the piano. She was a dedicated student and excelled at her Royal Conservatory exams.
Those fortunate to know and love Ann, knew she was beautiful, intelligent, witty, kind, patient, generous and always encouraging. She will be forever loved, her presence forever missed, her memory forever treasured.
A memorial service for Ann will be held at Snodgrass Funeral Home in Okotoks on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at 1:30 pm.
