Anita’s Obituary
Mackintosh, Anita Lois “Myrt” – 94, Kolbec. Anita slipped the bonds of earthly consciousness on Tuesday, February 15th, 2022 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst, surrounded by as many adoring family members as COVID protocols would allow at the age of 94. She was born the only child of Cyril and Freda (Plumbley) Agnew on October 16, 1927 in North Vancouver, BC. In mid 1945 she met a young LAC who looked very handsome in his RCAF uniform as he awaited discharge at the end of WWII. She was given her “pet name” as the result of a running gag on a radio show of the period and would be referred to as “Myrt” throughout their 68 year marriage. Jerry and “Myrt” were married in July, 1947 and so began the grand adventure. It started with a ride on the back of a ’45 Harley Davidson motorcycle from Vancouver, BC to Oxford, NS, arriving in Oxford on Labour Day, 1947. Together they ran a family business, Mackintosh Hardware, raised a family and made memories and stories which could be told by their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her kindness, humility, sense of humour and love of music were models for all of us. We love you Mum. She is survived by her sons, Leigh (Therese), Dartmouth; Randy, West Leicester; Ian (Cheryl), Salem; daughter, Valerie, Kolbec; daughter-in-law, Margaret, Amherst; grandchildren, Harold (Gayle), St. Stephen, NB; Colin (Cathy), Lehigh Acres, FL; Natasha, West Leicester; Vicki, Truro; Jeffery, Fall River; Melissa (Shane) Lund, Memramcook, NB, and Mark Dobson (Sam), Oxford; great-grandchildren, Shyra, Charlie, Aurora and Sabrina; special niece, Jean (Larry) Bush, Montreal, QC; and many cousins in Western Canada. Besides her parents, Cyril and Freda, and stepfather, Ted Cargill, she is predeceased by her husband, Gerald; daughter-in-law, Patricia; and great-granddaughter, Taylor Lynne. The family would like to express extreme gratitude to the doctors and nursing staff of Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre for their care and compassion as well as the home care workers and members of the VON who visited both Dad and Mum in their final years. A tea to celebrate Anita’s Life will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, February 20 in MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, 5075 Main Street, Oxford. COVID protocols, including proof of full vaccination and masks are required to attend.
