PATERSON, Andrew (Drew, Andy)- June 30, 1933 – April 28, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful father and hero, Andrew Paterson. Drew passed away surrounded by his devoted family who loved him beyond measure. Drew leaves behind his sons, Andrew (Sylvie) and Sam (Donna); his grandchildren, Christine, Julie, Michelle, Joshua, Adam and Lara; his adoring cousins, Billy and Margo, and extended family and friends in Scotland and Australia. He is predeceased by his loving wife Isobel, adored sister Irene and his parents, Andrew and Mary.
Born in Kirkcaldy, Scotland, Drew grew up in a loving family. He was very involved in the Boys Brigade and excelled academically and in all sports. His passion for mechanics led him to an apprenticeship and, during his National Service, served in the Corps of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME). Drew loved football (soccer) and delighted in telling stories of great players from the past, and in particular, of his boyhood team, Raith Rovers. During his time in the REME, he was scouted and trialed with English Football League team Derby County, but turned down the opportunity to return home to family in Scotland.
In 1965, Drew brought his young family to Canada, where he began working at Drinkwater Motors in St. Catharines. A few years later, the family moved to Niagara Falls where his entrepreneurial spirit took hold. In 1974 he proudly established Paterson Auto Repair, which quickly became one of the most reputable auto repair shops in the city. He was a great supporter of local soccer, coaching for many years and serving on the executive of the Greater Niagara Minor Soccer Association. He was a past master of the Clifton Masonic Lodge and a long serving member of Drummond Hill Presbyterian Church holding positions as Elder and Clerk of Session. In 1991, Drew went to work at Morse & Son Funeral Home until his retirement in 2010. A private ceremony has been held followed by cremation. The family invite you to attend a celebration of his great life, which will be held at the MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 5917 Main Street, Niagara Falls, on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 11:00 a.m.
