Alphonsus Richard Walsh
December 3, 1935 – April 8, 2022
Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on Friday, April 8, 2022 with his devoted sister Doris by his side. Dick Walsh (Skipper) formally from Ferryland. Predeceased by his parents James and Bridget Walsh; sisters: Magdalen, Edith, Agatha (Andrew), Mary (Eric), Clara (Richard) and Edna (Bill); brothers: Francis, Eric, Cecil (Hilda) and Austin; great niece Allison Hapgood; great nephew Joseph Hapgood and a very special brother-in-law Eddie Barrington.
A kind and gentle man who could spin a yarn or tell a good story about trap fishing, hunting wild animals, cutting wood, or taking a fishing pole to Merrymeeting to catch a few trout mostly the Big Ones. While making a life in St. John’s with his sister Doris and her family for the past sixteen years his heart was always in Ferryland.
Leaving behind to reminisce and re-tell those stories are his nieces and nephews from the Jordan, Brewin, Scott, Harvey, Clowe, Walsh, Hapgood and Barrington families; sister Kitty and sister-in-law Anna Walsh. Also, dear friends Bernard and Sandra Adey who visited him to the end.
A special thank you to the North Pond Manor for their care and compassion. Although it was a short stay you treated him with kindness, dignity, and respect. Thank you to family Physician Dr. Jamison Mercer for your medical advice and support over the years. To the nursing staff and doctors 4NA and 4NB Health Sciences Centre for your care, kindness and compassion.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or funeral. A private burial will take place at Holy Trinity Cemetery at a later date in Ferryland.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Alphonsus Richard Walsh 2022..
