Allen A. Cloninger, age 79, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on the evening of Friday, September 24th, 2022. Allen was born in Strawberry Plains on February 14th, 1943, to the late Randy and Mary Lee Cloninger. He attended Carter High School and was a loyal supporting member of the Carter community his whole life. He retired from the insurance business where he spent many years meeting people and making friends throughout the East Tennessee area. He was an avid outdoorsman, coach, golfer, and sports fan. Allen was a loving husband, girl daddy of 3, papaw to 3, and great-grandfather to 5 spoiled little buddies. There wasn’t a Saturday morning that went by he didn’t mark the sports page and set his line up to watch all the games, especially his Vols. He was known to have the wittiest humor or a joke to share, even to the very end. Allen and Helen are devoted members of First Baptist Church Strawberry Plains where Allen could always be heard singing with passion.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carolyn Farmer; brother, Lonnie Cloninger; daughter, Tammy Cloninger; and many loving family members and friends that met him with open arms.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Helen Cloninger; and daughters Kimberly Grubb and Linda (Rusty) Armstrong; grandchildren, Justin (Ashley) Grubb, Jessica (Shane) Collins, and Seth Armstrong; great-grandchildren, who were his little gems, Graven, Allie, Avery, Tucker, and Beckett.
