Obituary of Alfred Neufeld

Alfred Abram Neufeld, age 87, of Hague, SK. passed away on May 4, 2022. He is lovingly remembered by his children and their families: Rhonda (Eric) Dueck; Ryan (Rachelle), Jadyn, Ashtyn, Ryder and Chanel; Tyler (Jessi), Gavin, Addison and Elizabeth; Shayne (Jessica), Jane, Jordan, Kate and Lucy; Russell (Connie) Neufeld; Branden (Ashlea), Aurelia and Celia; Clayton; Lynn (Ron) Friesen; Nick (Brittany), Ryker, Kinsley and Asher; Adam (Jacy); Jill (Ken) Wiebe; Ang (Trace) Goertzen; Alyssa; Mitchell (Emma); his second wife Laura, her children and grandchildren; siblings and in-laws: Helen Friesen, Ed (Yvonne) Neufeld, Bill Zacharias, Tony (Jacqueline) Funk, Alma (Dick) Sawatzky, Steve (Leanne) Epp, Irene (Vic) Willms, Les Neufeld, Laura Neufeld. He was predeceased by: his wife of 58 years, Leona; his parents Herman and Margaret; brothers Menno and Rick: sisters Erna, Gladys, Marilyn; and numerous in-laws.
Dad was born on May 12, 1934 and lived in or near Hague for the majority of his life. He met Mom while she was teaching in Hague and they were married July 1, 1958. Dad was always hard-working and looking for ways to support his family. In 1962 Mom and Dad started Al Neufeld Sand and Gravel which he operated until 1991, when he sold the business to Russell and Connie. During his “retirement” years, he enjoyed many hours of fishing at Dore Lake and hunting in Saskatchewan, Colorado, Africa, and most recently at their land at Orley. In the winters they would often go on short-term missions’ trips, volunteering in places like Texas, Guadeloupe, Mazatlan, and Thailand. Mom and Dad bought a hunting lodge at Smoothstone Lake after selling the business as well, where they made many new friends. During this time, Dad also bought a sawmill which led to many logging trips and sawing lumber with his son, sons-in-law, and grandsons. He made sure that all his kids had a cabin at Dore so that we could continue to bring our families to enjoy our little piece of Heaven on Earth. Starting in the mid-90’s Mom and Dad began going to Mazatlan for the winter, which continued until he was no longer able to travel.
Looking back at Dad’s life (the work, the play, the travel, and the friends), he led a very full life. This does not yet mention the two biggest passions in his life which were his faith and his family. At home, at Dore and during their travels, he made sure to always find a church on Sunday morning. Together with Mom, he led “Boy’s Club” at their church where they had an impact on many young boys from the community. Dad took us on many winter ski trips as a family, and we all enjoyed being able to spend time with them in Mazatlan. Many summers Dad took on work projects so that he could pass along his knowledge to his grandsons and nephews.
