Alfred “Alf”‘s Obituary
Alfred Edward Cann “Alf”- Age 78 of Freeport, died peacefully Thursday, December 1st at Digby General Hospital. He was a friend to everyone he ever met and always eager to meet new ones. Being sociable was on his everyday agenda. Alfred’s helping hands and kind deeds were an asset to his communities where he actively participated in his Seniors groups, Church and all community events. He enjoyed his coffee visits and cribbage games with friends. Call it luck or skill, he was the one to beat. Alfred started working at a young age and had many jobs throughout his years. From local fish plants (Connor Bros and DBK Fisheries), S. Elliott Fuels, splitting wood, mowing lawns and until recently Alfred drove community members to and from appointments. He loved being on the go. Alfred was truly an Island Icon and friend. He is predeceased by his Mother and Father, Christina and Charles Cann. He leaves behind his beloved 17 yr old cat, Hunter, whom he spoiled with love and treats. He is survived by his Brother Gordon Nichols (Marie), Nieces Christina Prime (Larry), Susan Johnson (Jim), Nephews Mark, Colin, Robert, Richard and Cecil Nichols. Great Nephews Christopher Prime (Alicia), Mathew and Daniel Johnson, Great Great Niece and Nephews Catalaya, Chancy and Kyle. Alfred had many cousins all over whom he talked about and loved dearly. Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Saturday, December 3, 2022, in the Freeport Baptist Church from where a Funeral Service will be held 2:00 pm, Sunday, December 4th, 2022, with Pastor Craig Glavin officiating. Interment will be in Brookside Cemetery, Freeport. Donations can be made to the Freeport Baptist Church and Canadian Cancer Society.
