Obituary
Marie Christensen passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, January 13, 2022, in Bountiful, Utah. She was 84 years old. She suffered with Alzheimer’s disease for the last few years.
Marie was born July 3, 1937, to Noble and Elizabeth Kline. She was born and raised in Dodge City, Kansas and always talked fondly of her upbringing. She has 4 siblings – Peggy, Phil, Janet and Janie. They all grew up working in the Kline Dairy owned by their dad.
While attending Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah she met Ray Stevenson. They were married June 2, 1961, in the Salt Lake Temple. After he graduated from BYU they moved to Canada and eventually made their home in Magrath, Alberta. Together they raised six children. They made many great friends and enjoyed living in Magrath until Ray’s passing on October 15, 2003.
Marie then married Dennis Christensen on March 4, 2005, and they lived in Bountiful, Utah. They enjoyed spending time with both of their families, watching BYU sports and the Utah Jazz together. They both enjoyed traveling back to Kansas and Alberta to visit family and friends. Together they share 8 children, 30 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Marie was beautiful inside and out. She was always happy and pleasant to be around. She was frequently singing, humming, or whistling a tune. She found joy in music and loved singing in the Sweet Adeline’s and practiced countless hours with her beloved trio for many performances. She was a beautiful quilter and made several quilts in her later years. She was a great cook and enjoyed making home cooked meals for her family and anyone that stopped by. She was known for her pies and homemade bread and enjoyed her role as a homemaker.
She was a faithful and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served very faithfully in many callings in Relief Society, Young Women and Primary. Ray and Marie served a mission together in the New Mexico Albuquerque Mission. They also served together in the temple presidency in the Cardston Alberta Temple. Prior to her battle with Alzheimer’s disease, she loved her calling as the ward Music Leader in her Bountiful ward. Her testimony and love of the Savior was an example to us all.
Marie is preceded in death by her husband Ray Stevenson, parents Noble and Elizabeth Kline and great-granddaughter Auni Naulu.
She is survived by her husband Dennis Christensen and her children: Kelly (Larry) Wilde of Pleasant Grove, UT; Lori (Gene) Smith of Lehi, UT; Carrie (Eliesa) Naulu of Spanish Fork, UT; Jeff (Monica) Stevenson of Toquerville, UT; April (Randy) Huntington of Spanish Fork, UT; Sandra (Danny) Summers of Ephraim, UT; Dennis’ daughters Brenda (Stu) Smith of Los Barriles, Mexico; Marsha (Will) Naegle of Bountiful, UT; and many grandchildren.
