Alec’s Obituary
Alec Harry Hominiuk-long time resident of Manning (AB)-passed away peacefully at the Manning Community Health Centre on Monday, August 22, 2022 at the age of 90 years.
Alex was born June 23, 1932 at North Star (AB) to Mary & Fred Hominiuk. He lost his parents as a very young age and was raised by family members.
Once Alex was old enough to be on his own, he filed for a homestead east of Manning. Alex and Vi Bakkelund were married June 18, 1954. To supplement his farm income, Alex drove school bus and found work in town at various businesses. He was the president of the Battle River Ag Society and the president of his church for 52 years.
In his later years, Alex corked 5,000 bottles of homemade wine. He was known as the town photographer for many years. Owning a computer, a cell phone and iPad demonstrated His love of technology.
Family was always No.#1 to Alex. He is survived by his wife (of 68 years) Violet; daughters Bev (Calvin) Parenteau, Pat Buchinski (Laverne Kamieniecki), Donna (Jim) Vowel and Debbie Hominiuk. Alex was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. They all loved their Gido. He is predeceased by his parents Mary & Fred Hominiuk; sister Katie Martyniuk; brothers John, Pete and George.
A funeral service and interment will take place at Battle River Agricultural Hall in Manning (AB) and the Russo Greek Orthodox Cemetery (North Star) on Monday, August 29, 2022 at 11:00 a.m.
Donations may be directed to the Orthodox Church in Manning, or, the Manning Palliative Care Society.
