Alberta Gladys Caines
October 4, 1926 – December 19, 2022
Corner Brook, NL
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Alberta (Holly) Gladys Caines (nee Lush) announce her passing on December 19th, 2022, at the age of 96 years. She passed peacefully surrounded by family at the Western Long Term Care Palliative Care Unit. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband of 80 years John, sons: Randy (Ruth), Wayne (Karen), Jim (Laura), and Kevin (Brenda); daughters: Jocelyn (Kevin), Debbie (John), Dianne (Douglas) and Annette; siblings: Jim, Delores, Maxine, Jane, and Beryl, as well as 18 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and a large circle of extended family and friends.
Holly was predeceased by her parents: Albert Lush, Rebecca Cross, and step-father Norman Moss, father-in-law John Thomas Caines and mother-in-law Alice Caines, children: Tommy, John and Joan, brothers: Sam, Norm and Glen, son-in-law Calvin and daughters-in-law: Joslyn and Peggy.
Holly was an incredibly strong, kind, and selfless woman. She dedicated her life to her family whom she loved unconditionally. Wherever her family was, is where she wanted to be. She enjoyed listening to music and loved to dance. She spent many years at her cabin in Howley, where she enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and having campfires with family and friends. Holly had a great sense of humour, and always loved to laugh. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Mountainview Retirement Centre, the staff at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, and the staff at the Western Long Term Care Palliative Care Unit for their kindness and care.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 27th from 7:00pm-9:00pm at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue. A service will take place on Wednesday, December 28th at 2:00pm at Fillatre’s Funeral Home Chapel with Major Abbott officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. In light of Holly’s love for animals, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations are made in her memory to the NL West SPCA (nlwestspca@gmail.com).
