Obituary
On Sunday, December 11, 2022, Albert Thorassie, a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and uncle, peacefully started his journey to the spirit world while surrounded by his loved ones. He was 76.
Albert was a voice and advocate for the Sayisi Dene people and a dedicated member of his community. Throughout his lifetime he worked in various capacities for Sayisi Dene First Nation. He was the Elder Advisor for the North of 60 Land Claims and for over three decades he was a Board Member and then Chair for the Beverly and Qamanirjuaq Caribou Management Board.
To know Albert was to know a person who valued and loved his culture, language, land, and his family. His biggest accomplishment in life was being a father, grandfather, and great grandfather who loved nothing more than to make everyone around him laugh and smile. He will be remembered as a person with the unbelievable ability to always wear a smile on his face, to always have a joke to tell, or something funny to say that would make everyone around him burst into laughter. Albert was known as kind, caring, and happy, he was a person who loved unconditionally and with all his heart. Albert accomplished many great things in his life, he was able to pass down his culture and traditions to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, who will carry on his legacy for many years. Albert will be missed greatly by his community, friends, and his family, but he will be remembered by the great impact he had on so many people.
Albert’s service in Winnipeg will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2022, from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm at Eternal Grace Funerals. He will then continue his journey home to Sayisi Dene First Nation where he will lay to rest with his relatives on Monday, January 2, 2023.
