It is with profound sadness the family announces the sudden passing of Abram (Abe) Friesen on November 9, 2022 at the age of 75. Abe is survived by his son Jared (Heather), daughter Eden, granddaughter Lilianna, three brothers, four sisters, and their families. He was predeceased by his wife Audrey, his parents, and brother Henry.
Abe was a devoted employee with the Winnipeg School Division for 40 years and an active member of CUPE Local 110. He was a pillar of his neighbourhood and offered a helping hand and strong back to all. Abe never asked for attention or recognition, but rather did what he felt ought to be done.
Abe was a steadfast man, but his heart melted when he met Audrey. When she passed on, those around him understood he would not remarry. His family was his priority, and his eyes beamed with excitement when a granddaughter came into his life. He smiled his smile and walked on with his collection of photos, ready to show anyone who expressed interest in his new-found joy. Outside of his family, Abe was a father figure and mentor to many; he offered a nonjudgmental ear, signature humour, and words of advice whenever needed.
Abe lived his life as true for himself and made no apology for it. Abe was, as his Audrey always said, a very good man. He will be missed immensely.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, November 27, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., at Southdale Community Centre, 254 Lakewood Blvd.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Abe may be made to the West Central Women’s Resource Centre, 640 Ellice Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3G 0A7.
