HEATHER ANN DEGRAAF
March 9, 1952 – June 29, 2022
Heather passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, after a hard-fought and courageous battle with cancer. She will be forever loved by her sister Debbie Hurd, brother Steve DeGraaf, and nephew Andrew Hurd and his wife Marina. Heather was a dedicated, caring, and talented educator who mainly taught in the English and Special Education departments during her tenure at the Toronto District School Board (TDSB). Born with strong will, ambition, and determination, Heather would later flourish in administrative roles with the TDSB and eventually earned a promotion to Principal. In both her career and personal life, Heather exemplified integrity and served many as a mentor, role model, and source of inspiration through her sunny disposition and positive attitude. She was also fiercely independent and, despite several rounds of personal adversity, she never complained and rebounded with strength and grace that was a marvel to behold. Heather loved to travel and particularly enjoyed returning to England, France, Florida, and Newfoundland. She brought happiness to the lives of everyone she met with her charm, selflessness, and generosity. She was liked by everyone and loved by most. Heather will be deeply missed by her extended family, many friends, colleagues, students, and all of those whose lives she touched. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Hill House Hospice located at 36 Wright Street, Richmond Hill L4C 4A1. Heather will be remembered by many for her supportive and compassionate nature, which was greatly reciprocated by the truly incredible staff at Hill House. Hers was a life well lived and she will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
