Gregarious by nature, Gordon made the best of his youth serving, first as “your friendly neighbourhood paper boy” in 40 below weather then becoming a sea cadet at HMCS Nonsuch, Edmonton. As a cadet, he sailed to Alaska on the famous HMS Oriole schooner, often keeping watch on the bow in the fog.
His university education led him to teaching, cutting his teeth in a small schoolhouse in Spirit River. It was there in 1973 he met the love of his life, Carolyn Le Mesurier.
Eventually, in 1975, Gordon & Carolyn found themselves teaching in Drayton Valley, where they built their first home and brought three fine children into this world.
A stroke brought an end to his teaching career, after which they moved in 2005 to Spruce Grove where Gordie enjoyed collecting and reading volumes of world history.
In retirement, they built two homes as their children moved on with their own lives. Besides Gordon’s love for his family, had had two great joys: Arizona winters and their summer trailer retreat on Lac La Nonne, Alberta. His smile said it all as he relaxed in a camp chair with a rum and coke in hand, telling tall tales with good friends.
Gordon is survived by his good wife Carolyn, eldest son Scott and family, delightful daughter Kristen and her family, youngest son Jeffrey, many friends and three brothers.
We all miss you dearly, Gordie, and beyond that thin veil we know you are doing well.
