Yvonne Anne Schirn
Age 61 of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia – formerly of Es England passed peacefully on Sunday April 4, holding the hand of her loving husband, Paul Saulnier. Their fairy tale romance began in 2010 with a chance encounter. Paul, dressed as a Pirate for Natal Day Festivities, wandered by her table. It was love at first sight when their eyes met and they both knew they had found their soul mates.
She is survived by her husband, Paul Saulnier; step children Chris Saulnier and Keltie Price (Evan Price); sister in law, Denise Fraser; niece and nephew Hailey and David Fraser and her Canadian family-by-choice; Dave and Cathy Kells and their children Meaghan, Katie, and Patrick Kells, and Paul Christensen and Chris MacNearney and family from PEI. She loved them all dearly and cherished time with them all.
Yvonne longed to spend more time with her family in England and is survived by her father, David William Schirn; mother, Catherine Ann Barbic; sister, Hadie Elaine Wynne; niece and nephew Hannah South (Ben South) and Adam Wynne, and her brother Ivan Peter Barbic.
Yvonne particularly loved weekends in Wentworth, ski vacations in Colorado, visiting family across the pond, time in New York City and road trips to PEI and Stanfest. She was blessed with loyal girlfriends and cherished their girls’ weekends and vacations. Yvonne’s brilliant smile and her infectious laugh filled every room she entered and she filled her life with fun, laughter, and amazing memories.
Diagnosed with cancer in 2015, she and Paul chose to live life to the fullest. They lived and loved as if nobody was watching and cherished each day spent with friends, family and each other.
Yvonne immigrated to Canada in 1987 arriving in Calgary and later to Nova Scotia. Trained in Britain, Yvonne resumed her nursing career in 1991 at the IWK Women’s Clinic and progressed to a position with the Perinatal Center. In 1998, she joined the Obstetrics and Gynecology Associates, and was instrumental in establishing their Dartmouth site clinic which she managed until her illness in 2015.
Yvonne truly loved helping people and that was reflected in the number of former patients that would stop and say hello and mention how much she impacted their lives.
Paul would like to thank the team that took care of his beloved Yvonne over the last 5.5 years with such kindness, skill and compassion:
Dr. Isabel Delisle and Dr. Catherine Craig who were employers, friends and supporters as the journey began.
Dr. Mark Walsh who offered a tulip, not a rose, with his honesty and guidance providing the pathway for the upcoming journey.
Dr. Danny Rayson and his assistant Mallory who guided the journey of treatments allowing Yvonne and Paul to live a quality of life that was truly exceptional for more than 5 years. Their kindness and caring made them feel like friends.
Dr. Rob Barry performed the first Y-90 procedure in Nova Scotia providing a renewed lease on her quality of life. She always believed the name should have been changed to the Yvonne 90.
Dr. Jean-Mathieu Beauregard who treated Yvonne in Quebec City renewing her quality of life for over a year.
The Palliative care team: Mitch Devoe RN, Dr. Dupere, Dr. Flynn, and Dr. Krueger-Naug; and the physicians and staff at Dartmouth General and the QEII who cared for Yvonne: Dr. Mike MacLaughlan, Dr. Steve Duke, Dr. Stewart and Dr. Heather Hunter, for their dedication, skill and compassion.
Finally, thanks to Dr. Catherine Kells who was with us every step of the way with research, sitting in on consultations, and providing support and love with her husband David by her side.
Yvonne did not want us to mourn her loss but to cherish the gift of having shared in each other’s lives. Please consider planting Lavender (Yvonne’s favorite flowering plant). The scent and beauty when it flowers will be a reminder of her joy and love of life.
Due to Covid, a Celebration of Life will be scheduled in the future when we can all come together and raise a glass of in her memory. Malbec or Shiraz would seem appropriate.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Yvonne Anne Schirn April 04 2021..
