Bell, Wm Lindsay. April 21 1936 – August 16 2021
Died peacefully at Collingwood General and Marine Hospital, after suffering a stroke at his Creemore home. Lindsay will be missed by his sister Ruthe Winters of Maxwell, sister in law Marion Bell of Keswick. Predeceased by sister Phyllis Aldcorn of Maple Valley and brother Gordon Bell of Forest Hill.
He will be remembered for his many accomplishments including over thirty years of service to the Simcoe County Board of Education as principal. Also, with successful business ventures including Bell- Cohen Jewellers with good friend Samuel Cohen and in the 1960’s Lindsay expanded with his fine arts and antiquities venture. In the mid 1980’s along with his nephew and long time business associate Wayne Winters, Belhaven Antiques was considered to be a “must see while in the area” for almost 30 years.
Lindsay enjoyed travelling extensively for business and pleasure. He coped with the effects of Parkinson’s Disease for many years but did not let it interfere with his love of tending to his gardens at Belhaven and was proud of his award winning Dinnerplate Dahlias, castor bean plants and medicinal herbs. His love for 20th Century Decorative Arts and Tiffany Lamps was highlighted in the Toronto Star in 2007.
Following Lindsay’s wishes cremation has taken place and there has been a private family gathering. No public services will be held.
