Obituary
It is with sadness the family of William James Cairns announces his passing on March 7, 2021 at the Rosetown & District Health Centre at the age of 93 years.
Bill was born November 6, 1927 on the farm on the correction line east of Zealandia. He was the only son of Thomas and Pearl (née Peterson) Cairns and had three sisters, Verna, Ruth and Helen. The family moved to Dolly Brae district, northwest of Zealandia where he attended school. He farmed with his parents until 1954 when he married Thomasina Stevenson, they moved to the farm 10 miles north of Zealandia. They raised five children, Dianne, Ron, Jim, Joan and Wes. Thomasina passed away in 1969 from cancer and Bill continued farming, milking cows, raising beef cows and his children and in 1971, he married Margaret Stevenson. In 1981 at the age of 53, he started a dairy venture with his sons and he continued milking and raising Simmental cows. In 1993, he sold his share of the dairy and continued farming, planting trees and building fence well into his 80’s. Bill and Margaret bought a condo in Rosetown in 2011 and in 2016, they made the move into Rosetown, still visiting the farm regularly. In 2019 as Bill’s health declined, he made his final move to the Rose Villa where he remained until his passing.
Bill is survived by his wife Margaret Cairns; his children Dianne Campbell, Ron Cairns, James (Lorie) Cairns, Joan (Stewart) Williams and Wes (Carol) Cairns; grandchildren Bill, Stacy, Andrea, Stephanie, Thomas, Dallas, Shane, Brandy, Brad, Stephen, Courtney, John, Joe, Fraser, Micheil, Shaun, Sharlene and Kala; 31 great-grandchildren; sisters Verna Stanek and Helen Lusk as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by his first wife Thomasina Stevenson, parents Thomas and Pearl Cairns, in-laws Albert and Annie Stevenson, sister Ruth Duncan, daughter-in-law Brenda Cairns and granddaughter Julia Patterson.
