It is with great sadness that we wish to announce the passing of William Edmund McPhail. After a long battle with cancer, Bill finally found his way home to God. He passed peacefully on December 6th, 2021, at Maison McCulloch Hospice. Bill was 88 years young.
He is survived by his loving wife and partner Claire Read McPhail (nee Dugas). He will be sadly missed by his children, Cathryn Drobig (Dwight), James McPhail, and Sarah Jean McPhail-Wisotzki. Loving grandfather to Daniel (Paula), Zachary (Kathleen), Michaela, Jordan (Lyanie), Jenny and Pierce. Cherished great grandfather to Evelyn Joy. He will also be missed by his stepchildren Linda Tremblay, Phyllis (Gilbert) Briscoe, Maggie (Don) Bruneau, Joseph (Angie) Read, Gerry (Rhonda) Read, and Glenn (Laura) Read as well as many step grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Bill was an Inco man and worked in the water treatment plant. He was an extraordinary man, strong in his faith and in the love of his family. He was an avid outdoorsman well into his eighties. He looked forward to and enjoyed his annual canoe trips with his church brothers. He often spoke fondly of his bee keeping days. He gave of his heart to many community organizations and enjoyed volunteering at the Elgin Street Mission. His love for God and his love of life was always apparent in all that he did. There was never a task too difficult or a challenge too great. Through his fellowship at All Nations Church, he developed a passion for mission work. He helped complete many builds in third world countries. He was instrumental in the setting up and take down of the annual Living Nativity at Science North. He was proud of his Scottish roots, spoke highly of his heritage, and if we were lucky, would regale us with a song or two. He loved his children, grandchildren and, great granddaughter dearly. As his mother, Loretta, would often say “We love you Billy Boy”
