William Bill Alexander 1930 2021

WILLIAM AVERY JOSEPH ALEXANDER –” Bill”
(Nov 15, 1930 – Dec 28, 2021) was born and raised in South
Woodside to George (Joseph) Alexander and Beryl (Freeman) Alexander,
younger brother to Hubert Pagan, Dorothy Goudey and Carol
Smale.
Bill was curious and ambitious – traits that got
him involved in many jobs as a young lad, growing up along the
waterfront during the Second World War. As a young man on a trip to
Bridgewater to visit his sister, he took time to visit
Eisnor’s Restaurant where a chance encounter with a waitress
changed his life forever. He met and eventually married Mary
Faulkenham.
They lived in Dartmouth and had two daughters
Lynn and Nancy, before moving to Pinehurst where daughter Yvonne was
born. One year later they purchased the former Seamone property on the
Tompkin Road in Stanley Section where they had two more children
– sons, David and James. This became their forever
home.
Bill was very social, a great contributor to his community
and openly shared his views. He was a proud man – proud of
his family, friends and his own accomplishments – most
noteworthy was the volunteer efforts of the construction and
fundraising for the New Germany and Area Medical Centre, 1993. Bill
possessed the determination to motivate others and get things
done.
Bill worked in many trades – carpentry, forestry,
sales and service, marine and eventually spent the last twenty years
operating a grader for the Department of Transportation until he
retired. Crafting pine furniture was a hobby he took up later in life
and he was part of the group who formed the New Germany and Area
Crafts Association. If you ever visited New Germany on Canada Day, you
no doubt saw the wooden Canadian flags hung throughout the village,
made by Bill. He enjoyed working to improve the lives of others
– aiding and repairing countless pieces of furniture and
household items for many people, in particular, seniors. He always
tended a garden and enjoyed being able to share the harvest with
family and neighbours or others at the card parties.
Bill is survived by wife, Mary, and children Lynn (Wayne
Morrison), Oakfield; Nancy (Garnet Veinot), Wentzell Lake; Yvonne
(Laurin Kerr), Little Dyke; David (Corinna Durling), New Germany; and
James (Cheryl), Lower Branch. Poppy was also survived by five
grandchildren – Scott Morrison, Ryan Morrison, Daniel
Veinot, Tara Kerr, and Kelly Graham; and great grandchildren Keenan
and Cale Fraser, Luke and Jack Graham, Shaheem Purdon, Shakeel and
Aleeyah Ramji.
Bill was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer
but was able to remain at home, cared for by family, Home Support, VON
and Palliative Care.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. At
Bill’s request, please “give what you can afford”
to the New Germany and Area Medical Centre, 100 Varner Road, New
Germany, NS B0R1E0
