Wilena Christine Doucette 19412021 avis de deces

Wilena Christine Doucette
1941-2021
DOUCETTE, Wilena Christine –
held in love by her family, both physically and in spirit, Wilena
passed peacefully from this world to the next on Saturday, February
27th, 2021, in Milford Haven Home for Special
Care, Guysborough.
Wilena was the youngest girl and second last child born to
Hughie and Alfreda (Hawley) Hines, of Ingonish Ferry. She
grew up and attended school in Ingonish, before taking a job as an
operator on the switchboard run by the Doucette family, where she met
Joe Doucette. The two were married in St. Peter’s
Roman Catholic Church in Ingonish on June 8th,
1963. Joe and Wilena shared a love that endured through
distance as Joe worked away at sea for many years, through the joy of
victory and the agony of defeat during their nightly cribbage matches,
and through 44 years of devotion and mutual respect when Joe passed
away in 2008.
Together they brought Arthur, Jane, and Lesa into the world,
and provided them with a warm home and loving guidance for
living. After first residing in Ingonish, the family moved
to Princeville for many years, before finally settling in West Bay –
the Marshes. Wilena was a stay at home Mom when her children
were younger, choosing to devote herself to their care and well-being,
before venturing into the workforce by baking with her niece Brenda
and selling the goodies out of her home and at Mattie’s Meat
Market, then as a salesperson at “Circle of Sound”, later as
a personal care worker for “Home Care”, and finally as a
care giver to seniors who came to live in her home.
In later years Wilena took her role as
‘Grammie’ very seriously and tried to spend as
much time as possible with her five grandchildren, – Joey, Mya, Noah,
Seth, and Jacob – baking cookies, going swimming, playing cards, and
attending their milestone celebrations. In her leisure time,
Wilena loved to stop and shop at every yard sale possible, to knit
with love for her children and grandchildren, to try her luck at
Bingo, to skate at the Civic Center, to mow lawns, and to live out her
faith in church and in community; while her all-time favourite way to
relax was with a cup of tea and a program – especially “Another
World” (she was thrilled to have once met Douglas Watson, who
played Mac Cory!) and “Mrs. Brown’s
Boys”. Wilena’s living was all too early
impacted by diabetes which she dealt with diligently, and later by
Alzheimer’s which stripped away her confidence and her
communication. Wilena left this world knowing that she was
much loved and will always be remembered.
Wilena is survived by her daughter, Jane Doucette (Donnie
MacAskill) and grandson, Joey Doucette; by her daughter, Lesa
Doucette-McHugh (Jason McHugh) and granddaughter, Mya
McHugh; by her son Arthur Doucette (Rev. Connie McNamara)
and grandsons Noah Doucette (Samantha Lawless), Seth Doucette, and
Jacob Doucette; by her chosen son, Christopher Morrison, by her
sisters-in-law, Bonnie Hines and Mary Doyle; and by numerous nieces
and nephews that she loved dearly! Wilena was predeceased by
her parents, by the love of her life, her husband, Joe Doucette; by
her siblings, James, Melvin, Tom, Harold, Norma, Billy (who died at
age 10), Raymond, Dave, Evelyn, and Billy, and by many
in-laws.
A time of visitation for Wilena will be held in Dennis
Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury on Tuesday March
2nd from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.,
with all COVID regulations for masks and
distancing in place. Funeral and
burial will take place at St. Margaret’s Roman Catholic
Church in West Bay Road at a later date. In Lieu of flowers Memorial
donations may be made to the St. Margaret’s Cemetery Fund,
or to a charity of your
choice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Dennis Haverstock Funeral
Home, Port Hawkesbury. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family
