Obituary of Wayne Collins
COLLINS, Wayne Kenneth – It is with deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Wayne at the Ottawa General Hospital due to complications of esophageal cancer on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at the age of 61 years.
Wayne Collins, youngest son of the late Mac (Kenneth) & Margaret Collins (nee Brown) of Pembroke. Much loved brother of Lynn, David (Mary Lou LaBine) & Heather (Sen. Mike Duffy). He will be missed by nephews Matthew Collins & Gavan Duffy (Jane). Nieces Miranda Duffy (Sean Vanderfluit) & Karen Duffy. He was a loving great-uncle to Jack & Lily Collins; Benjamin, Lillian & Alexander Duffy and Colin & Rowan Vanderfluit.
Wayne took pleasure in helping others – for friends he was Mr. Fix-It. He enjoyed kayaking, restoring cars, auction sales, downhill skiing and travel. He was a dog whisperer to many 4-legged friends. He was an environmentalist, who loved being outdoors. He taught kayaking, showing others how they too could enjoy the splendid rivers of our region, and the joys of Algonquin Park. Wayne fought the disease quietly, but with great courage, assisted by the teams at 6NW Thoracic and the ICU at the Ottawa General Hospital. We thank them for their devoted care and support.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Wesley United Cemetery, Pembroke on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Some of Wayne’s ashes will be spread along the Ottawa River, whose swirling rapids gave him such joy. Arrangements entrusted to Malcolm, Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home, Pembroke. (As an expression of sympathy, donations to Renfrew County SPCA or Canadian Cancer Society – Wheels of Hope would be appreciated.)
