Wayne Rodney Sutherland was born July 17, 1967, in Haileybury Ontario to Ray and Rita Sutherland.
A loving brother, father, husband, and trusted leader among his communities.
Predeceased by his parents, Ray and Rita, and sister Ann. Survived by his loving wife Jillianne, children Wesley, Katrice, and Chelsea, grandchild Felix, siblings and their spouses Warner (Denise), Carol, Pete (Lois), Ron (Cecile), Brian (Rona), brother-in-law Al, nieces, nephews, cousins, and twin flame Steve Legault, among many doting friends.
With a strong work ethic, Wayne dedicated 25 years to Hydro One Services and Wabi Iron and Steel, where he gleaned numerous accolades for his achievements and earned life-long friendships.
Wayne thrived in nature with a love of sport fishing, bush hiking, kayaking, and relaxing bon-fire-side under the stars.
He cultivated a home life emitting warmth, and cottage-country pace, sharing the simple pleasures of life with his truest love.
A sentimental, thoughtful, kindred spirit – Wayne was the strong silent type with a talent for woodwork and labor-made gifts.
Wayne is greatly respected and often referred to as a man one should aspire to emulate — an avid community member, a valued leader in the Indigenous community, and a representative of Oki Chi Taw martial artistry.
Wayne Rodney Sutherland passed away peacefully at the age of 54, in his home surrounded by family following a touching smudging ceremony the evening of Thursday, October 7, 2021.
Cremation has taken place at Lakeview Crematorium, Haileybury. Friends will be received at Buffam Leveille Funeral Home, 705-672-3122 on Thursday, October 14th from 10:00 am until the time of the memorial service at 12:00 pm. As expressions of sympathy memorial donations may be made to:
