Walter James Breen 1949 2021

Obituary of Walter James Breen
Walter James Breen passed away peacefully on November 8, 2021, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, after several years battling Prostate Cancer. He was born on April 30,1949 to the late John E. Breen and Mary E. Breen (Shannon).
His outlook on life at the end of his journey was heartwarming. He spoke about all the love surrounding him and how special it made him feel, and he talked often about the special friends he made after joining several bowling leagues. Walter looked forward to his yearly trip to Ontario to visit nieces, Jackie Thistle, Barb Curkan, their families, and nephews, Bobby and Eric Goakery. Sadly, he wasn’t able to go for the past two years as Covid and his illness prevented him from making the trip. Anyone who was a horse racing fan would have known him, as in his younger years he never missed a chance to go to the races at Exhibition Park. He was a great hockey fan and loved to go to the games and hang out and talk to all the many people he knew.
Walter is survived by his siblings: Margaret Titus, Ann Burns, Gary (Michelle), Ronald, Terrance, Judy Donovan (his sister and caregiver for the last several months) and Mark Breen; sisters-in law: Audrey Breen and Helen –Surette Breen; brother-in-law, Donald Landry: his friends Steven Dempster and wife, Heather, Valerie and Colleen O’Leary, Gloria Moore, Dawn Dow and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings: Elaine Marie, Patrick, Charles, Geraldine Goakery, John E, Rose Mary Landry (Donald) and Malcolm (Helen).
Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 14, 2021, from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM. A Funeral Liturgy will take place on Monday, November 15, 2021, at 2:00 PM in the Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Due to Covid-19 health measures placed on indoor gatherings by the Government of New Brunswick, all those 12 and older attending the service or visitation will be required to show proof of vaccination and a piece of a government-issued ID or proof of medical exemption. Donations in memory of Walter can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Special Olympics or Multiple Sclerosis Society.
