Obituary
With sadness the family of Walter Thomas Daley announce his peaceful passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital on August 21, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Walter was born on January 14, 1947 in Halifax, NS to the late Douglas and Arsenna (Saulnier) Daley and was the loving husband of 55 years to his wife, Carol (Dunbar) Daley.
After growing up in Westville N.S. Walter and his family travelled for work across the country, making lifelong friends along the way, finally settling and making their home in Grand Bay-Westfield in 1974.
Walter was a proud 50 year member of UA Local 213 as a Pipefitter and Welder by trade for many years where he enjoyed the comradery of his fellow union members. Although retired from the trade, Walter was hard working and loved to stay busy, always having a project on the go. He was a master tinkerer and could fix anything he got his hands on, his family always teasing him he could fix anything with WD-40 and duct tape. Walter was a seasoned yard saler, teaching both his children and grandchildren how to bargain for a deal, and always bringing home new treasures. Walter was actively involved in the community of Grand Bay acting as both a Cub leader and Scout leader. He was an observant and quiet man, but always had a dry quip to put his loved ones in stitches and never afraid to offer his honest opinion. Walter was forever the support beam holding all of his family up and giving them strength. He was the most generous person you’d ever meet, going out of his way to help family, friends and new acquaintances, but never wanted anyone to make a fuss over him. He didn’t do anything for attention, just to help someone in need, whoever they may be. Walter was a wonderful man and the love that he shared with his wife, Carol, brought strength, love and a sense of home to their entire family. CBC Radio has lost one of their most loyal followers and his family has lost the greatest man they have ever known. Walter will be so deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Along with his wife, Carol, he is survived by his children, Michele (Philip) Flowers and Thomas (Kirsten) Daley; 5 adored grandchildren, Jessica (Daye) Howe (Wesley), T.J. Daye (Bailey), Dylan Daye, Madison Daley and Harper Daley; brother, Douglas (Ruth) Daley; sisters, Margie Baker, Mary (Bob) Austin, Doris Daley and June (Katherine) Daley; as well as several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother-in-law’s, Joe Baker and Paul Judge.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424) where visitation will take place on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 from 1-3pm with a Celebration of Walter’s Life to immediately follow at 3pm from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel.
