Victoria’s Obituary
Victoria Rusnak passed away at the Canora Hospital, on April 19, 2021, at the age of 90 years.
Victoria was born August 14, 1930, on the family farm in the Endeavour District, SK. She was the seventh child born to her parents, Mike and Sadie (nee Leson) Tataryn. She attended Chermorz School and after her school years she worked for a time in a restaurant in Canora, SK.
Vicky met Mike Rusnak at a dance in Usherville, SK, and they were united in marriage on October 15, 1952 at the Preeceville United Church. When first married, they lived on Mike’s parents’ farm.
They saw the birth of one child in their marriage, Dean Melvin, who died only a week after his birth. They did not have any other children, but their nephews and nieces held a special place in their hearts and lives.
In the mid 1950’s, Vicky and Mike moved to Regina, SK, as Mike worked in the trucking industry. While in Regina, Vicky worked not only as a homemaker but also, as a waitress at a restaurant in the city. They lived in Regina for about three years and in 1958, they returned to the farm in the Rockford area, SK. Vicky worked as a homemaker and as well as on the farm. In 1961, after her mom died, Vicky and Mike moved to the Tataryn family farm, north west of Endeavour, SK, which became their home for the next 50 plus years. Always working together, they operated the mixed farm, with cattle being their focus.
In addition to her work in the home, Vicky’s work included helping in the fields at haying time, milking cows, raising chickens. There was also much work in the house. She baked, cooked, cleaned, washed, canned and gardened. Besides her passion for working alongside her husband, Vicky shared her love of caring for her farm cats, music, dancing, and camping. Most of all, Vicky loved people and socializing. Her home was always a place where family, neighbours, and friends dropped by for a visit and, of course, some food.
As Mike’s health issues increased, Vicky willingly gave much of herself in caring for her husband; even sacrificing some of her own needs to care for him. In 2014, when Mike became a resident of Preeceville Personal Care Home, Vicky remained on the farm until 2016, when she joined him so they could be near each other every day. After Mike’s passing in 2018, Vicky continued to live in the Personal Care Home.
Throughout her life, Vicky always had a vibrant mind, energetic spirit, and a welcoming heart. She had an amazing memory and always remembered birthdays, and family as well as community history. Vicky was keenly interested in people including the newest generation. A compassionate soul, she was always interested in others and what they were doing and concerned about nieces and nephews and their families. Even in the Care Home, she was always concerned about others and their feelings.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Vicky was predeceased by her parents, Mike and Sadie; her husband, Mike; her infant son, Dean; her siblings: Mike Jr. and Eva, both in infancy; and John, Emily, Ann, David, and Alvina. Vicky was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by her many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family, and community members who were blessed to have her in their lives.
A Graveside Service will be held (and live-streamed) at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 24, 2021, from St. John’s Cemetery, north of Endeavour, SK, with Rev. Miles Russell officiating. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Preeceville Personal Care Home, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Victoria Rusnak.
