Obituary for Verna Matilda Aspray
March 11, 1933 – August 29, 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Verna Aspray. Verna passed away August 29, 2020, at the age of 87 in her home in Vancouver, and entered into the presence of Jesus. She was born March 11, 1933 in Saanich, B.C. She leaves to mourn her passing; her half sisters, Ellen Wainright and Edna MacLawson, Mien friends, missionary colleagues, and a host of friends.
Completing her early education in Victoria, she studied nursing. Upon receiving her nurse’s registration, she worked in a Christian Hospital on Vancouver Island before attending Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills, Alberta.
In 1964, Verna was accepted by OMF International for ministry in Thailand. There she learned both Thai and Mien languages and moved to the hills to live with the Mien people. After serving 47 years in East Asia, Verna returned to Canada. Each year thereafter, she returned to the Mien people until she retired in 2015.
Verna was a woman of God and a woman of prayer. She lived a disciplined life, loved to learn, and finished the tasks she set out to do. Her simple life-style and grateful heart are an example for those who follow.
An online Celebration of Life will be held September 20, 2020.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Verna Matilda Aspray 2021..
