It is with sad , and at the same time , grateful hearts that the family announces the death of Vera Ada MacKenzie on Thursday , August 12 at the Dartmouth General Hospital . Sad because of the huge void she leaves in our lives but grateful for all the years we were fortunate enough to have her with us . Mom would have been 99 on Sunday August 15 .
Born on August 15 , 1922 in Eastern Passage , the daughter of James and Annie ( Lintaman ) Ritcey .
Mom was active in St. Peter’s Anglican Church and spent her whole life in Eastern Passage surrounded by family . she was the last surviving member of her family .
After graduating from the Halifax Academy , Mom attended Normal College in Truro , and then taught school in East Petpeswick , Cow Bay , McNab’s Island , and Eastern Passage . She was active in many church groups , The Red Hat Society , she bowled until in her 90’s , attended Seniors at the Lions Club , played bridge and bingo , but what brought her the most joy was a houseful of family and friends on any occasion , Mom loved people and they loved her back .While raising her boys she took in boarders , and in later years worked at Autoport . Mom lived a very full and active life .
Mom was predeceased by Husband Ronald , sons Paul , Tom , and Jack , Grandsons Brian and Ricky , her parents , and siblings Jimmy , Mae , Ethel , Clyde , and Roy . She is survived by sons Gary ( Marilyn ) , Scott ( Sharon ) , grandchildren Michael ( Nicole ) , Anne , Ron ( Gail ) , Jody ( Rob ) , Pat , Luke ( Cynthia ) ,
Sam ( Marla ) , Chris ( Cathy ) , Cristina ( Gaetan ) , Daughter -In-Law Marian , Sister-in-Law Verna , and several Great Grandchildren .
The family wishes to gratefully acknowledge some special people who played a part in Mom’s life , her
“ angel friend “ Gail Armstrong , Northwood Care , Continuing Care , Dartmouth General Hospital , and First Responders .
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday August 28 at St. Peter’s Anglican Church , Eastern Passage . Due to COVID restrictions , attendance will be by invitation only . Donations in Mom’s memory may be made to St. Peter’s Church or a charity of your choice
