LAUGALYS, Tony – There was an incredible homecoming on November 3, 2021, when Antanas (Tony) Laugalys left this world to reunite with so many loved ones. When we imagine this celebration, we see joy, love and laughter. And we think fondly of those who welcomed Tony home: his beloved Aldona, parents Kazimieras and Ona, son-in-law Rick Donahue, brothers and sisters, and many, many friends.
Tony’s family will miss him deeply. He was the loving father of Danguole (Dee) Donahue, Linas Laugalys, Daina Feick (Murray), and Vida Collis (Jeff). He was a devoted grandfather to Anne Donahue, Jennifer Collis (Ned Aiken), Julia Laugalys (Colin), and Liam Feick (Justine), and great-grandson, Jack Collis-Aiken. His grandkids were truly the light of his life.
Tony’s also remembered with love by his sister, Liuda, nephews and nieces, and long-time friends.
Born in Lithuania in 1929, Tony immigrated to Canada at age 20. After a year of working on the railroad in Northern Ontario, he settled in Hamilton. There, he took what he thought was a position as a temporary labourer at Angelstone, only to retire over 40 years later as Vice President of Production, Arriscraft (Cambridge).
His passions included politics, walking and fitness, the pursuit of a winning lottery ticket, and the Lithuanian community in Hamilton. In his younger years, he was a Rover leader and enjoyed Lithuanian folk dancing and acting.
Cremation has taken place. Due to COVID restrictions, a private funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 6th, at 2pm with visitation starting at 1pm, at Lounsbury Funeral Home, 1766 Franklin Boulevard, Cambridge. Live streaming will be available via Tony’s obituary page on www.lounsburyfuneralhome.com.
Heartfelt thanks to everyone at Saint Luke’s Place, Cambridge, for their kindness and compassion. In lieu of flowers, we invite you to make a memorial donation to the Saint Luke’s Place Foundation.
