Obituary of Thomas Tangie
Peacefully Tom passed at home to the Spirit world on April 28, 2021. Predeceased by his parents, Allan Tangie and Lena Mione and brothers Michael and John and nephew John Philip. Loved by sisters Rosemary (late Gilbert Fortin) Chapleau, Anna May (Maurice Chaloux) Timmins, Lucy (Etienne Lacasse) Montreal, Teresa (late Mike Linklater) Capreol, Louise (Joel Gauvin) Timmins, Patricia (Mike Bedard) Chapleau, Diane (Robert Labranche) Chapleau, Philip (Patty) Kenora, Tina (Mike Lambert) St. Thomas, Carla, Chapleau, and Jackie (Chris Roy) Wawa. Uncle and Godfather to many cherished nieces and nephews and their children. Brother-in-law to Robert and Cheryl McVeigh, Margaret Rushford and Lancelot Smith and John Rushford.
Beloved father to Jeffrey Gardner and Jazmin Matson and their 3 children Gabriel, Michael and Rhyan, and to Christopher Gardner and Julie Bisson and their 2 children Nathaniel and Victoria. Husband and best friend to Jackie McVeigh who shared a life of caring for those in need.
Tom was a proud member of the Michipicoten First Nation. He was first employed as a Correctional Officer and then as a Staff Rep Negotiator for the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU). He championed Indigenous rights and quietly worked to secure a better life for the working class.
Private Mass of Christian Burial at his parish, Holy Cross Catholic Church, Oshawa on Monday May 3rd, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Father Keith Callaghan.
Internment at Chapleau, Ontario in Native Tradition once gathering is permitted.
Donations may be made to Starthrower Foundation, a Canadian Charity working to give students a hand up in Haiti at 52 First Ave, Orangeville, Ontario L9W 1J1 or through Pay Pal.
