The family of Thomas Joseph “Joe” Uher, 86, of Lake Loon NS, are saddened to announce his peaceful passing on Sunday November 7th, 2021, at the Dartmouth General Hospital, after a five month illness. Joe was born on July 8th, 1935 in Beaver Mines, Alberta to immigrant parents, Joseph and Maria (Hucik) of Czechoslovakia, but grew up in the Crowsnest Pass area, of Alberta. He is predeceased by his wife Ethel Virtue (Fiander), his parents, sister Mary Kubica and husband Mike. He is survived by his son, Jeff (Alison Smith), grandsons Joshua and Cameron, nieces Carol Dieter (Eric), Linda Iwasiw (Bill) and their families. Married in 1970, Joe and Ethel spent forty wonderful years together, until Ethel’s passing in 2010. Joe spent most of his career as a Lab Technician with the National Research Council of Canada, for many, many years, until his retirement. Throughout his life, in his spare time he enjoyed gardening, travelling, going for walks and dining out. Years ago he enjoyed coaching a few of Jeff’s baseball teams, and more recently, researching family ancestry. He was a devote lifelong, very active member of St. John’s Anglican Church in Dartmouth. A huge fan of the Calgary Stampeders, Toronto Blue Jays and Green Bay Packers, he would always make time to watch their games and root for his favourite teams! Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 20th at 1:00 pm, at the St. John’s Anglican Church Hall, 1215 Main Street, Dartmouth, NS. Proof of vaccination and masks will be required. The service can be viewed on the St. John’s Anglican Church Facebook page. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dartmouth General Hospital or St. John’s Anglican Church.
