It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Thomas (Sam) Andrew Blakney on January 21, 2021 at his home. Tom was born, (August 17, 1947), and raised in Saint John, NB to the late Curtis Evans Blakney and Almetta Arlene (Thimot) Blakney.
In his younger years he went by the nickname “Sam” and grew up at his family home on Courtney Avenue. Tom worked for years at the Saint John Dry Dock as a welder and was an accomplished craftsman. A self-taught musician who played the guitar and sang in a band entertaining many at Legion #14 and other venues. Tom was happiest hunting and spending his time in the woods or on the water.
He is survived by his three daughters, Cheryll Anne Blakney (Shawn Votour) of Saint John, NB, Tanya Elizabeth Blakney of Calgary, AB and Kayla Leanne Blakney of Pickle Lake, ON; one grandson, Brandon Fowler, of Saint John, NB. Tom is also survived by his five siblings, Malcolm (Helen) Blakney, Betty Nickerson, Helen Hutchison, Jack Blakney and Brenda Blakney, all of the Saint John and surrounding area, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). Due to these uncertain times and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, a private family service will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by his family.
