SYLVIA BUTSON (nee Carey.)
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Sylvia, our loving and devoted wife, mother and friend to all whose lives she touched.
She left us peacefully on Sunday, July 18, 2021 at the Seaforth Community Hospital after a long courageous battle with dementia.
Born in Bexhill-On-Sea, Sus, England on October 6, 1928, as a young woman she served in the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force during the latter part of WW2.
Sylvia emigrated from England in 1953 and shortly after met her husband Reg Butson, where they initially settled in Clinton, Ontario after their marriage in 1958.
She was the beloved mother of Richard (Teri), Paul (Lorraine) and Margaret (James Newell.) Proud Nana of Katie Newell, Evan, Eric, Emma and Reid Butson as well as great-Nana to Callum and Quinn Norman, Hollis Butson and Elsie Butson.
Sylvia was predeceased by her brother Peter Carey and sisters Kathy Leppard and Olive McCartney. Survived by sister June Graves of Battle, Sus, England as well as nieces and nephews in Canada and England.
Sylvia lived a full life as a wonderful mother, wife, homemaker and Teller at the Mitchell and District Credit Union. She was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 128, Mitchell.
Sylvia loved music. She also loved to sing and play the piano. As a parishioner of Trinity Anglican Church in Mitchell, she sang with the choir and was well known for her beautiful voice.
She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
Private family arrangements are entrusted to the Lockhart Funeral Home, Mitchell.
