Obituary
Stewart Alexander Chaulk
Millcreek
Our beloved husband, father, brother uncle and friend passed away peacefully June 3, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. Stewart was a man of the water who spent 42 years employed with Marine Atlantic, as well as time on fishing draggers in his earlier years.
Born August 27, 1951 in Sydney NS to the late Cpt. James Chaulk and Ethel (King) Chaulk, Stewart would move to Burnt Islands NFLD where he spent a number of years before returning to Cape Breton.
If you asked anyone who Stewart, AKA “Chaulkie” or “Donald Duck” was – they would all be able to tell a story. Chaulkie loved the outdoors – fishing and hunting – he was a jack of all trades, always willing to give a helping hand, and a proud, loving family man. The thing he is most fondly known for is his jokes and storytelling. In the quick-witted words of Chaulkie when asked “how ya feeling?” “…with my hands” he would say, and “It’ll only toughen you up.”
Surviving to carry on his memory is his wife of 50 years, Helen; his children Laura (Michael), Leigh (Brian), Jeana (Neil), Stewart (Rachel), and Aaron; his 7 grandchildren, Tris, Shirley, Austin, Jayden, Shailynn, Cole, and Seth; siblings – Jim (Sarah), Stan (Isabel), Kevin (Faye), Jane (Eric), Colleen (Brian); step-father George “Bud” MacDonald; in-laws – Kathy (Cletus) Fleet, Michael (Amy) Mortensen, along with many nieces and nephews.
Stewart was predeceased by his sister, Jeanette; brother George; in-laws – Helen & Joseph Mortensen, Kenneth Mortensen, Vonnie Jessome; nephew Chrisopher and nieces Vanessa Jessome and Karen Chaulk.
Special thanks to the staff at the Cape Breton Regional Cancer Center. A special kudos is also extended to Mandy and all the staff involved with his care in the Palliative Care Unit.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Center.
Due to the current Covid 19 restrictions, a private family service will be held at W.J. Dooley Funeral Home at 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Cremation will take place and a celebration of life ceremony will be held at a later date when restrictions are eased.
“Signing off – I’ll see you in the Highlands”
