Obituary
Shirley Eileen White passed away on August 28th in a motor vehicle collision. Shirley, at the age of 70 was the wife to the late John, mother to Chris, Mike (Charlene), Jose (Sandra) and Katie (Miguel), grandmother to Santiago, Cheyenne, Chase, Sanjo and Josan.
Shirley was born in Brampton, in October of 1950, daughter to Doris and George Rutherford, sister to Laurel, Jack, Emily and David. Their little white house still stands on Derry Road, formerly part of the community of Derry West. Shirley excelled at school, and later double majored in History and Phys Ed at York University. In 1968 Shirley met John while out bowling in Brampton. They were married at Britannia United Church in 1971.
Shirley went on to teach phys ed, co-op and history for 32 years at Georgetown DHS. In 1985 their family including children Chris, Mike and Katie moved to Erin from their home in Acton. This would be their family home where they would welcome Jose from Mexico and later their grandchildren.
Shirley took part in many groups and had many interests. She volunteered within the community, was involved in all her kids’/grandkids’ activities, and was joined by close friends in hiking, book clubs, travel and theatre activities.
Arrangements entrusted to MacIntyre Family Funeral Home, 5399 Wellington Road 52, Erin. Cremation will take place and a celebration of Shirley’s life will take place at a later date. We will update our website when those dates and times become available. Donations in Shirley’s memory can be made to East Wellington Community Services, Orangeville’s GoGo Grannies (Steven Lewis Foundation) or the Canadian Cancer Society.
