Obituary
The family of Shirley Anne (Daigle) Doiron, wish to announce her passing which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Tuesday, November 2nd, 2021. Born in Saint John on September 28, 1958, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Yvonne (Hebert) Daigle.
Shirley loved her family deeply- her husband TeyJoe of 42 years of marriage and her three daughters. She always said her three girls were her greatest accomplishment.
Shirley shared in a rewarding 20+ year career at Zellers where she created many friendships that could stand the test of time. Upon their closing, Shirley joined the dietary department at the Loch Lomond Villa where she quickly became a part of their family.
Shirley enjoyed nature- feeling the sun on her face, planting a little garden, going for walks. In her younger years, she had many other children alongside her own, all trotting through King’s Square. She made that look effortless. She loved the happenings in uptown, Saint John. She loved to explore new places in later years. She always wished she could go farther but she found happiness no matter the place. She loved being near the water. She deeply enjoyed a long drive- “a tour de nowhere,” as “Pup,” her Acadian father called it. She had taken many a long drive with her beloved parents to the Acadian peninsula as a little girl, cuddled up in a makeshift bed in the backseat. The sound of wind chimes brought her joy and are placed throughout the family home.
She loved to spend time with and cook for her family and friends- if you showed up to the house, you would be sitting down to eat something or leaving with a container. If you wouldn’t eat, you had to sit for a cup of tea! She loved to gift her meat pies and carrot cakes, recipes that had been handed down to her and she kept going. Her grandchildren were frequent recipients of cookies and muffins made with love by Nana. Shirley had a mischievous side and a sense of humour that lent itself to many a practical joke. She especially enjoyed staging practical jokes with, and on, her Zellers work family. She had a deep love of all things Christmas- her countdown began in January. She loved all the warmth, goodness, and cheer of the season. She’d be baking, decorating, shopping and tucking things away for her grand babies well in advance. She never missed an opportunity to catch a cheesy Christmas movie- especially Home Alone and anything by Hallmark.
Shirley had a heart of gold; she was someone who always went the extra mile and gave this life everything she had. She will always be remembered as a people’s person and someone who you could always count on in times of darkness to bring you light, joy and comfort. Our hearts are broken and the loss is immeasurable, but we hold tight to all she gave us. She filled each of us up with the love to carry on.
Shirley is survived by her husband Gerald (TeyJoe) and their daughters; Yvonne (Brian) Barrett, Melissa Doiron and Vanessa Doiron. She is also remembered by her siblings; Theresa (Ronnie) Evans, Leonard Daigle, Jeannette (Sam) Colpitts and Jimmy Daigle.
Shirley will always be remembered by her grandchildren, Cohen and Madeleine- “Nana’s Boy” and “Nana’s Girl.” She treasured them, and they knew it.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her sisters Zelia Aspen and Edna Chiasson, along with her three grandbabies: Kieran, Gabriel and Michel.
Visitation will take place at the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) on Friday, November 5th between the hours of 2-4 and 6-8pm. Funeral Liturgy to be held from the Fundy Chapel on Saturday at 10:00 am. Interment to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
