BOUCHIE, Shirley Anne – 77,
Canso, passed away after a brief illness on May 3, 2021 at Canso
Seaside Manor, Canso. Born in Charlos Cove, she was the
daughter of the late John Michael Richard and the late Annie Viola
(Snow) Richard of Canso.
Over the years Shirley was employed at National Sea Products,
Scotia Restaurant, Canso Daycare Centre and then finished out her
career in Housekeeping at Eastern Memorial Hospital for 16
years. Before her illness, Shirley spent her spare time
knitting, quilting, crocheting and attending prize bingos to support
her community. She loved to visit her family and friends and
attend family gatherings. For the last five years, she
resided at the Pines Manor Seniors Apartments. She enjoyed time with
her friends there who were very special to her, especially Jean and
Emily. She was a devoted Catholic and was part of the Catholic Parish
at Star of the Sea Church in Canso.
She is survived by her son Tim (Fran), Pattie (Dean), and
Janice (Scott). She had five beautiful granddaughters who
she was very proud of, Wendy, Lezlie, Erica, Brittany and Kayla;
sister Sharon and brothers Enos, Jim and Bill. she was predeceased by
her loving husband of 49 years, Elliott, sister Dorothy,
sisters-in-law, Anita and Irma, brothers-in-law, Shirl, Wally, Robert
and Basil. She had many nieces and nephews who she loved
dearly.
Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Shirley’s wishes,
there will be no formal visitation. Due to Covid-19 Restrictions, a
graveside service will be held at a later date. Donations may be made
to Canso Seaside Manor Palliative Care Unit. A special thank you to
the doctors, nurses and support staff at Eastern Memorial Hospital,
St. Martha’s Regional Hospital (ICU and PCU departments) and a
heartfelt thank you to the staff at Canso Seaside Manor who were so
kind and devoted to Shirley’s care while she was a resident there. A
special thank you to our family and friends for supporting us through
this difficult time since her illness first began. Especially to her
brother Jim and sister-in-law Kathy who went above and beyond to help
her and us since her illness first began 10 months ago. Words of
