December 31, 1931 ~ December 28, 2020
Age 88 Years
With tremendous sadness we announce the passing of Shirley Richardson, age 88, beloved wife of the late Howard Richardson, on Monday December 28, 2020 at Fairview Personal Care Home. Mom was born on December 31, 1931, youngest daughter of George and Maude Angus of Crandall. She married Howard Richardson on June 21, 1952. Mom and Dad lived on the home farm N.E. 9-14-26 until Dad’s mother died in 1954 Then moved to Miniota but continued farming the N.W. 9-14-26 and N. E. 8-14-26. In 1961 we moved to the Hugh Gibbons farm on Section 23-14-27 and in 1964 Mom and Dad bought this farm. Mom will be lovingly missed by her children Dale (Brenda) Richardson, Dennis (Chris) Richardson, Debbie (Terry) Wikstrom, Rosalie (Dick) Thomson and Glen (Adeline) Richardson. There were few amenities in our home growing up, but we always had lots of food, love, family, and friends. As everyone growing up in a farming community knows the kitchen is the place of gathering and Mom would make some amazing dishes, often cooking on the wood stove to share with family and friends. Of course, the famous Grandma buns were available for every special occasion. Mom graduated with Grade XII in Crandall, and then worked at the Royal Bank in Shoal Lake until she married Dad. Mom worked for the Rural Municipality of Miniota as Assistant Secretary-Treasurer and from July 1973 to her retirement in 1990 as Secretary Treasurer. But mostly Mom was just Mom and of course the Best Grandma ever to her 14 grandchildren. She was such a remarkable woman it is hard to capture her in a few short sentences. She was the true matriarch of her immediate family and her large extended family, and her community. I don’t know how she kept it all together, worked all day, drove us to our many activities every evening, went on to complete University through Correspondence courses, volunteer for the many events in our community of Miniota, Crandall and joined the Hamiota Hospital Auxiliary in 1992. Mom’s childhood years were spent in Crandall Manitoba, and when she got married, she moved only a few miles down the road to Miniota. She was well known in the area for her talents as an accomplished accountant and her sewing and crafting creations and her boundless energy. She was so loved by her children and grandchildren, and she was so careful to ensure everyone got her undivided attention. If you asked any one of the 14 grandchildren, who do you think Grandma loved the best, they all would answer “me” as she made them all feel so special. Mom’s health deteriorated as she grew older and was eventually admitted Fairview Nursing Home in Brandon Mb. With the onset of the pandemic visits became limited and our time with her was curtailed significantly. She became very ill just before Christmas of 2020 and died from Covid 19 on December 28. 2020. “No longer by our sides, but forever in our hearts.” Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday August 28, 2021 at 1:00 pm at the Arrow River Cemetery with luncheon to follow at the Arrow River Hall. Donations may be made to Miniota Community Centre or Parkissimo Lodge, Miniota Mb R0M 1M0.
