The family of Sandra Louise (Cunningham)
Palmer announce her peaceful passing at Hospice Fredericton on May 15,
2021. She died in the same style that she lived her life-with dignity,
grace and courage.
Born in Arvida, Quebec on November 2,
1945. She was the daughter of the late Angus and Violet (Tabor)
Cunningham.
At the age of five, her family returned
to New Brunswick, spent time in Sus with extended family, and then
settled in Saint John, where she became a proud “South
Ender”. After completing Grade 13 at Saint John High School, she
went on to graduate from the Medical Laboratory Technology Course in
Saint John.
Sandra had a rewarding career as a
“Lab Tech” at Hotel Dieu Saint Joseph in Perth-Andover, NB.
This is where, Sandra, with her husband, Harry, raised their family.
During her time in Perth-Andover, she supported many community
activities, but was most proud of her involvement with Hotel Dieu
Hospital Auxiliary and the New Brunswick Association of Hospital
Auxiliaries, including her role as editor of its provincial
newsletter. Sandra was also an active member of Trinity Anglican
Church, enjoyed any group that involved gardening and expression of
the arts, and made life-long friendships.
In her retirement, she and Harry moved
to Fredericton, NB, where she became a committed member of Christ
Church Cathedral and continued her love of art, through her
involvement with the Heritage Rug Hooking Group and Cathedral
Matters. During this time, she also enjoyed being
with family (most of all her three grandchildren), travelling near and
far with Harry, meeting newly discovered relatives, and spending good
times with dear friends.
Sandra is survived by her loving family,
including her husband of 53 years, Harry, and their three children:
Andrew Palmer (Maura), Kentville, NS, Kara McCready (Mark),
Quispamsis, NB and Katherine Palmer (Andrew Rogers), Fredericton, NB;
her three precious granddaughters: Sophia, Megan and Violet;
sister-in-law Shirley Conrad (Allan), Dartmouth, NS, niece Trina
Conrad, Toronto, ON, as well as her beloved Sus family: Aunt June,
Aunt Georgina “Georgie” and many
cousins.
Besides her parents, Sandra was
predeceased by her mother-in-law, Queenie Palmer and father-in-law,
Herbert (Bert) Palmer, a number of aunts and uncles, her niece Debra
Boehner, and by her first child, infant daughter,
Sarah.
Sandra left the world a more beautiful
place. She found value and beauty in all things and expressed it
through her art, her gardens, her sense of adventure and her
interactions with others. Her kindness, strength,
wit and humility will have a lasting impact on all that knew
her.
The family would like to thank the staff
of 4NE and Palliative Care at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, as
well as the staff at Hospice Fredericton for their excellent and
compassionate care.
For those who wish, donations may be
made to Christ Church Cathedral: Organ Restoration Fund, Hospice
Fredericton, the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada, or to a charity of
the donor’s choice.
