Obituary of Samuel Mandziuk
It is with sad and heavy hearts we announce the passing of our Dad, Didi and Great-Grandfather, Samuel Mandziuk on the morning of Tuesday, June 15, 2021. After 41 days without her Dad decided Mom had enough of a break from him and he joined her to continue their dance.
Samuel will be greatly missed by his five children, Paul (Ann), Andy (Joan), Bill (Wendy), Nancy and Bob. He is survived by his seven grandchildren, Tracy (Devlen), Todd (Renee), Jackie (Shannon), Erin, Laurie (Ashley), Erik, and Elizabeth, and eight great-grandkids, Nevada, Camdyn, Tyson, Dylan, Addison, Jaxon, Brianna, and Max, sister Edna Egelstad (Gary), sister-in-law Elsie and many nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.
Samuel was predeceased by his parents Onofrey and Mary, brothers John and Peter, brother Nicholas (in infancy), and son in law Barrie Kosie.
Dad was born in Jamestown, ND and by the age of 3 moved to Sirko where he spent his youth on the farm. At the age of 15 he met Mary and they were married eventually for over 73 years. Together they raised their family and lived in Kings Park (Ft Richmond) until they moved to Ste. Anne area when Dad retired. Mom and Dad loved to return to their home area of Sirko where they continued friendships, and connections with relatives.
Dad was an eclectic gentleman who enjoyed music, teaching, tinkering with vehicles and spending winters in Texas. He enjoyed a good game of cribbage, pool and shuffleboard. He began his teaching career right after his marriage, and though he took a few sideroads along the way, he always felt it was his calling. Dad had perfect pitch and learned the craft of piano tuning while he continued his studies for his teaching degrees. He was hired by RRCC and was pivotal in the adult education department along with setting up the work experience program for students in trades. He was well read, enjoyed a good discussion and traveling, usually camping along the way.
Dad enjoyed his family, watching his children grow, mature and gain independence. He encouraged learning and loved watching his grandchildren “pay back” their parents. He was always willing to lend an ear and provide a different perspective on events.
Once Mom had her stroke Dad found it difficult to remain independent and eventually was able to be in the same care home as Mom. They were able to remain together and passed away within weeks of each other. He missed her.
The family would like to thank all the caring, compassionate staff at the Vita Personal Care Home, and Dr Olga for her kindness and understanding shown to Dad and our family.
If wished, memorial donations may be made to Vita Personal Care home in lieu of flowers.
A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
