Please help us commemorate the life of Ruth Pilgrim. You may have known her as your personal seamstress, church builder, business administrator, community booster or good friend and confidante. We, her family, are grateful to have shared a life with her and been coached by her egalitarian values and easy humour.
She and Edwin Pilgrim married in July 1953, and raised five children: Terry (Linda), Don (Pat), Patricia, Peter, and Sandra (Kája), all of whom survive her. Her grandchildren, Ashley, Bryce, Brennan, Todd, Curtis, Vanessa, Jill, Jason and Jordan are sharing memories with their own partners and children as well.
Ruth outlived her older siblings Minerva (Allan) and Lloyd (Joyce), and is remembered by Morley (Judith), Mason (Sharon), Mariam (Don) and Manson (Judy).
Ed and Ruth founded and operated Pilgrim Construction, welcoming their three sons to the business. She managed the business records and books through more than five decades of successful road and site building. Many of the local roads you travel today were built or improved by this team, and the work continues.
Ruth met many people through her lifelong service to her home church, Schutt United, where she was treasurer, fundraiser and valuable representative, leading by example, beyond the confines of denomination or region.
Her generous heart was a blessing to many of you, but it only carried her to the first day of winter (her favourite season) in her 88th year. Her difficult struggle with cardiac disease is finally over.
Should you wish to remember her with a donation, please consider supporting the wonderful team at Madawaska Valley Hospice through the St Francis Valley Healthcare Foundation online at www.zohrfuneralhome.com
We also want to thank the Renfrew County Paramedics, Dr Chen, and many friends for their kindness. The compassionate support provided through the palliative care program was a comfort to all, but especially our mom, in her last few months.
Professional services have been entrusted to Zohr Family Funeral Home, Killaloe. Cremation has taken place and we are planning a small family celebration soon. Regrettably, current pandemic restrictions preclude a large event.
Happiness is a choice.

“Aunt Ruth” was on the top of my list to visit this summer. I am heartbroken that she has passed. I just discovered her death by googling her name. I had been waiting for Covid to pass so that I might meet her. This is going to sound strange, but several years ago I did my DNA with Ancestry and found out that my biological father is Lloyd Fleguel, Ruth’s brother. Ruth was my closest DNA relative on the database, even closer than the five brothers and sisters I grew up with! I was hoping to hear some Fleguel family stories through her. I had never met my father Lloyd, as he too passed before I discovered my heritage. Since my discovery, I have met almost all of Lloyd’s children (my new siblings). Feeling very grateful to have that opportunity. Perhaps someday I will cross paths with Ruth’s children or grandchildren, making a dream come true. Ruth sounded like a lovely lady. My sincere condolences to her family and friends. ❤️ ~ Penny Laporte
