Ruth passed away peacefully at the Shannex Glasgow Hall nursing home in Dartmouth, NS, on Dec. 20, 2020, at the age of 93. She lived a full and fulfilling life. Born in Quinan, NS, to parents Maurice and Louise Fraughton, she spent most of her adult life in Ste. Anne du Ruisseau, NS, with her husband Bernard who predeceased her by many years.
She is survived by her son Al and his wife Marg of Dartmouth, their daughter Angie (Garrick) Booth and her great-grandchildren Felice and Frankie of Alberta and son Michel (Lindsey) of Maine. Also survived by son Dan and his wife Krys of PEI and granddaughter Danielle (Tim VanEijkern) Pottier-Smyth of Ottawa.
She is also survived by sisters Letha (the late Ray) Pottier of Whitby, ON, Carol (Richard) Kennedy of Brantford, ON, and brother Israel (the late Rose) Fraughton of Edmonton, AB. She will also be remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Siblings Gert, Lorette, Barbara, Gordon, Roy, Harry and Carl all predeceased her.
Ruth’s passion in life was cooking. She owned and operated the Golden Pheasant Restaurant in Tusket, NS, for many years and finished her working life as a cook for former prime minister Pierre Trudeau for eight years. After this time in Ottawa, she returned to the family home in Ste. Anne du Ruisseau where she enjoyed pleasant years and did some travelling before health issues led to her move to Dartmouth to be near her son Al and his family.
Special thanks to the caring staff at Glasgow Hall, Dartmouth for the care provided Ruth.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth. Due to public health restrictions during the current pandemic a funeral mass and burial will take place at a later date when all family members can attend.
