It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful Mother, Ruby, on March 16. After a short, courageous battle, she passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by the love of her children. Beloved Mom to Rick (Cheryl), Lori (Dave) and John. She is predeceased by her loving husband and best friend, Gary. She will be remembered lovingly by her extended family, many friends and her Mimico and OLA Lacrosse families. Our Mom was passionate about lacrosse and devoted much of her life to volunteering with the Mimico Lacrosse Club and Ontario Lacrosse Association where she was admired and respected by all. Her passion inspired others and many attribute their love of the game and their involvement in the sport to our Mom. Her tireless years of volunteering garnered her many honours including OLA Life Member, Ontario Lacrosse Association Hall of Fame inductee (Builder Category), the first ever recipient of the OLA Golden Stick award marking 50 years of Volunteer Service and having a street in Mimico named after her. Considered to be the First Lady of Mimico Lacrosse by many, her support of Canada’s National Game never waivered. She was an amazing Ambassador for the Sport and for her beloved town of Mimico. Our Mom touched many people’s lives and we saw just how much when she took ill and was unable to send her daily emails. Within days we couldn’t keep up with the volume of phone calls and emails asking if she was okay. Her thoughtfulness never missed an opportunity to celebrate her family and friends’ special events or accomplishments and she was always there in their hour of need. She was best friend to many. Our Mom was the last to leave a party and people gravitated to her warmth and sense of humour. We miss you already Mom and want you to know we are so proud to be your children. You are forever in our hearts. We would like to thank the wonderful doctors and nurses at St. Joe’s Hospital, all the amazing PSW’s and Nurses who treated our Mom with dignity and respect and the staff at Dorothy Ley for their never-ending support. Our Mom loved her grandpuppies, Chester, Delilah and Denver. If wishing to make a donation in her honour, please consider Pet Trust at University of Guelph.
