Ruby Augusta
June 11, 1925 – July 17, 2021
Passed peacefully away at James Paton Memorial Regional Health Care Centre, Gander, Ruby Augusta Matthews of Gander, NL at the age of 96 years.
She was predeceased by her husband Ronald; parents Kenneth and Irene Hobbs (nee Quinton) of Red Cliff, Bonavista Bay, NL; infant sister Roberta; brothers: Norman Hobbs, Red Cliff, NL; Clyde Hobbs, Gander NL; sister-in-law Ethel Red Cliff, NL; nephew Selwyn ,St. Johns, NL and best friend Ann Russell, Gander, NL.
She leaves with fond memories are her son Reginald (Judy) Pasadena, NL; daughter Hazel Sullivan (Al) Louisville, Kentucky; son Bruce (Diane) Gander, NL; grandchildren: Kenneth Matthews, Phil Matthews, Janice McLeod, Carolyn Maceacheran, Krista Matthews, Paul Matthews; great grandchildren: Alyssa Maceacheran, Damion Macreacheran, Caleb McLeod, Eliana Ruby Mae Matthews, Ethan Matthews; sister-in-law Norma Hobbs, Gander NL; niece Elaine Butt, Gander NL; nephew Earl Hobbs (Cathy), Red Cliff and a circle of other relatives and friends.
Special thanks to the nurses on Medical B of James Paton Memorial Regional Health Care Centre for their care and compassion, also special thanks to the staff of Nightingale Manor where she resided for the past 14 years.
Ruby came to the new town of Gander in 1949 with her husband Ronald living on both the Canadian and Army side prior to moving to 18 Edinburgh and finally building a new home on Cotton Street in 1962.
She was a stay at home mom and after raising her family she welcomed many boarders into her home from the construction industry and the Gander Vocational School.
In keeping with Ruby’s wishes cremation has taken place with a private family service to be held at Stacey’s Funeral Home, Gander on Monday July 19, 2021 with interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery.
