Maria (Mary) Marouso Rozdolsky Sigalas was born to Emanuel Sigalas and Hariklia Sigalas in Athens, Greece. After emigrating with her family to Canada, and after a short stay in Halifax, along with her family, she moved to Toronto, where she eventually had her three children Wendell, Zane (Mary) and Alyssa Nektaria (Yianni John).
She loved raising her children and then took great pride in becoming a grandmother to granddaughter Alexandra and grandson Lucas. As their Yiayia, never a day passed when she didn’t remember them in her prayers. Maria enjoyed being a real estate agent and employed at Imperial Oil, though she had many other varied types of employment over many years.
After the miracle of St. Nektarios of Aegina, Greece allowed her to get up from a wheelchair and walk for many decades, the ravages of MS and other medical issues eventually took hold during her retirement years. On 8 February 2021, after phoning her daughter Alyssa to say she was tired and wanted to rest, she used her Lifeline to call 911 and on the way to the hospital, she lost her fight with life.
Mary will always be remembered by her family and the many who loved her including her brother Panagiotes Peter Sigalas, her sister Katerina Nistas Sigalas, and her nieces and nephews: Maria, Marieanna, Christina, Zisis and Mano. Life long special friends Martha and Eric Dewar, Paola Breda, Anna Penelope Tsimidis and Stamatia Tsimidis will also remember her, as well her special recent friend Greg Gaidychuk.
Marouso was put to Eternal rest under the gracious hands of God by Fr. Sergius Pellegrini in a traditional Greek Orthodox service at Accettone Funeral Home in Ajax and then interred at nearby Duffin Meadows. May she Rest in Peace Forever.
