Peacefully at Gardenview Longterm Care, Townsend on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, in his 97th year. Beloved husband of the late Elva Mildred Hoover (nee Schweyer) for 72 years. Loving father of Linda (the late Ben) Woodruff, Melody (Lloyd) Smith both of Port Dover and the late Darlene May Hoover. Cherished grandfather of Rodney (Cindy) Rushton, Brad Smith and Angela (Blake) Nesbitt and proud great grandfather of Shelby (Andrew) Murphy, Clayton and Violet Smith, Rylee Nesbitt and great great grandfather of Natalie Murphy. Dear brother of Doris (late Floyd) Held, Joan (Don) Sherk and Milton (Sharen) Hoover and the late Madelene (Allan) Clarke. Brother-in-law of Ruth (Late Russell) Dennis of Simcoe and the late Vera (Bill) Yager, Earl (Edith) Schweyer, Hazel (John) Werner, Grace (Grant) Lindsay, Ralph (Frieda) Schweyer. Special uncle to many nieces and nephews. From a young age, Ross was passionate about vehicles. He drove transport trucks, owned 2 service stations, had a Ford dealership in Port Dover and even owned a taxi business. He was always happiest when behind the wheel of cars, trucks or motor homes. He loved driving to Florida and spending time there in the winter. Ross was active in his church – Selkirk Christian Chapel – and spent many years being involved in their activities. Ross also loved music and singing. He was a charter member of the Barbershoppers in Simcoe and always looked forward to singing with his friends. He liked to have sing-a-longs when people came to visit his home. A private funeral service will be held at Selkirk Christian Chapel. Interment Selkirk Union Cemetery.
