Melfi, Rosina (nee Melfi)
It is with heavy hearts we announce that our Mother passed away peacefully in her sleep at Extendicare Hamilton on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 in her 95th year. Mom came to Canada in 1954 from Casacalenda, Campobasso, Italy with her daughter to reunite with her husband, Pietro. Together they had three more daughters. Predeceased by her loving husband of 57 years, Pietro, in 2004. Rosina is survived by her loving daughters Susie (Joe) O’Hoski, Lucy (Steve Woloszyn) Foglietta, Linda (Robert) Beres, and Lisa (Jamie) Leder. Grandma/Nonna will be dearly missed by her grandchildren Brian (Daniela) O’Hoski, Andrew (Erin) O’Hoski, Michael (Anna) Foglietta, Steven (Diana Yu) Foglietta, Candace (Brett Miller) Beres, Simon (Nicole) Beres, Rebecca (Erik Chovance) Leder, and Ryan Leder; great-grandchildren Hudson and Eden, Alex and Chloe, Alessandro and Paolo, Adam, Sebastian and Lyla, and Nathaniel as well as many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Giovanni and Lucia Melfi and siblings Angelina (Pasquale) Pietrantonio, Annamaria (Michele) Pietrantonio and Vincenzo (Giuseppina) Melfi. Survived by her sister-in-law Giuseppina Melfi. In addition to being a talented seamstress, Rosina was an ardently devoted mother whose proudest achievement was raising her four daughters. Her smile shone brightest when our large family gathered at her dining room table, and she could fill our plates with one of her many legendary meals. Thank you to the caregivers at Westmount Terrace and Extendicare for taking such good care of mom. Ma it’s your time to rest, you taught us well, we got this!
Visitation will be held at P.X. DERMODY FUNERAL HOME (796 Upper Gage Ave.) on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 from 6-9 p.m. Due to Covid-19, if you wish to attend, double vaccination is required and please RSVP in advance at www.dermodys.com or by calling 905-388-4141. Masks and social distancing are also required. A private family service will be held.
