Obituary
It’s with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Ronald Charles Brown (Ronnie) at the Saint John Regional Hospital on February 18, 2021 after a brief illness. He was born on June 30, 1937 in Saint John, NB to the late William Everett Brown and Agnus Elizabeth Brown (Park).
Ronnie is survived by his wife Abbie (Mason), the love of his life of 60 years. Married April 1, 1961 (April Fool’s Day). Ronnie got to spend the last year at The Village Nursing Home and was so happy to be able to visit with Abbie almost daily as they were both residents of the Village. Covid wasn’t going to keep them apart. The love they had for each other was recognized by all who knew them.
He is also survived by his two children Dianne Jones (David) of Caledonia, ON and his son Donnie (Laura) of Quispamsis, NB., Grandchildren Bradley, Jillian, Michael and Mitchell and Great Grandchildren Mackenzie, Veronica and Ella. He was the best father, grandfather and great grandfather and was so very proud of his family and spoke of them often. Only regret was he was unable to hold the newest addition to the family, great grand daughter and name sake, Veronica May (Roni). Daughter Dianne was able to show him videos of Roni during his last days which brought him so much joy and to him she was perfect.
Also survived by identical twin brother Donnie of Edmonton, AB with whom he shared a special bond, brother Jack (Betty) of Grand Bay, sisters Edith (Wendell) of Charlottetown, PEI, Margaret Wallace of Grand Bay, Sharon Cormier (Raymond) of St. Stephen, sister-in-law Honey Summerville, brother-in-laws Gene Mason and Gary Mason and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers George, Murray and Walter.
Ronnie was a truck driver by trade most of his life working for Thomas Transport, Coke, then Consolidated Bathurst up until a truck accident. He Loved fishing and hunting but was saddened when later in life he was physically unable to do these activities. He loved talking about fishing with grandson Brad who is an avid fisherman himself. He enjoyed playing crib with anyone who was up for a game (or two) and took great pleasure in “skunking” his opponent. He grew up in the Vale (Simms Street) where he raised his family, made many friends and was blessed with wonderful memories.
He was involved in the Lancaster Minor Hockey League for many years and later when he and Abbie worked the canteen at the Peter Murray Arena, he loved greeting and chatting with everyone who walked through the door. And he loved watching his son Donnie play hockey growing up and later came grandsons, nieces and nephews to cheer on. He was a regular well loved figure at the local rinks.
Ronnie’s smile could light up a room and he made friends wherever he went. His favourite hang out was Timmies at Simms Corner where he would make his rounds to say hello to everyone at least two times a day. Ron was an agitator and loved to tease everyone, especially the girls behind the counter.
Thirty two years ago Ronnie was diagnosed with Acute Myelodysplastic Leukemia with a poor prognosis of three months to live but he survived after a bone marrow transplant from his identical twin brother Donnie. Ronnie also had many other health issues over the years, never complaining, just moving forward and enjoying life. He was a fighter to the very end. The world was a much better place , a happier place with Ronnie in it and he will surely be missed by family, friends and all who knew him.
Cremation has already taken place and a small family service by invitation only will be held March 1, 2021 at 10:00 am.
The family funeral service will also be live streamed from the Fundy Funeral Home. For those who would like to attend virtually, the information can be found below. A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome and can be made online to The Alzheimer’s Society of New Brunswick or the Loch Lomond Villa Memorial Foundation in memory of Ron.
