Roman Boyko passed away peacefully at the Marie-Curie-Sklodowska nursing home in Montreal on December 18, 2021, just several months short of his 100th birthday.
Roman was born in Ukraine and immigrated to Canada in the late 1940s. He studied dentistry in Germany but was unable to complete his last year of studies due to the war and turned to engineering work as a draftsman at Pratt & Whitney Canada until his retirement. He was a track-and-field athlete in his youth, winning the bronze medal at the 1936 European Olympics, and kept fit most of his life. He enjoyed the outdoors, chess and ballroom dancing.
He is survived by his wife Irena, to whom he was married for 70 years, and his two children, Lydia and Roma.
Due to the current COVID situation, a private burial will take place at the Mount Royal cemetery. Expressions of condolence can be posted on the Alfred Dallaire website. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Roman Boyko
