Roland’s Obituary
PEMBERTON, Roland William ~ of Kingston, Kings Co. It is with great love, respect and heartache that we announce the death of our father after 84 wonderful years. Dad died peacefully on Friday, March 13, 2020, in Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, Middleton with dignity. We have been so fortunate to have had such a great example of courage, compassion and strength. Our father’s life like our mother’s life has been a shining star for us to follow and that light will never dim. Born on August 2, 1935 in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Joseph Earle and Dorothy Arnold (Provoe) Pemberton. Roland was a retired member from the Canadian Armed Forces, after 25 years of service, than ran his own business, Pemberton Electrical for many years and afterwards went on to be the Office Manager at Tim Browns Auto Salvage and retired at the age of 82. Roland was a Honorary and Life Time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 98, Kingston, N.S. Surviving are daughters, Diane (John) Simard, Courtenay, B.C.; Sandra (Ron Forbes) Slaughter, Dartmouth: sons, Karl, Edmonton, Alta: Robert, Dartmouth, Richard Edmonton, Alta: grandchildren, Natasha, Stephen, Melissa, Jocelyn, Joseph-Dean and Dezyrea: great grandchildren, Kyler, Carter, Laila, Kennedy, Sadie, Little John, Ashton and Macin. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, the former Florence “Myrtle” Allison; a son, Joseph, granddaughter, Michelle in infancy; sisters, Diana Clare and Carole Ann; brothers, Edward Earle, David Arnold.
A graveside committal service for both Ronald and his wife Myrtle will take place at 1:00 p.m., Monday, August 9, St. Lawrence Cemetery, Kingston, followed by a time in celebration of Roland’s life starting at 2 p.m., in Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 98, 1472 Veterans Lane, Kingston. Due to pandemic restrictions, masking, social distancing and hand sanitizing are required.
