Whitney Pier
Al Rogers passed peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney.
Born on May 5, 1940 in Sydney, Al was the son of the late Richard ‘Dick’ and Josephine Nelly (Murphy) Rogers of Whitney Pier.
Allan worked at Modern City Dairy and retired from Scotsburn Dairy after 39 years of service. He was a jack of all trades, an avid bowler, and in his early years, Al and Charlotte loved to travel. Allan was a very kind and gentle soul, who had a smile for everyone he met and was willing to help anyone at any time. It gave Allan great pleasure to make people laugh with a joke or a prank. Al will be missed by many.
Allan is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte (MacSween) Rogers, who was devoted to Al’s care until the end; brother, Richard ‘Rick’ (Marilyn); sister-in-law, Carol Ann Rogers; nephews, Aaron (Alicia), Paul (Heather), Mathew (Nancy) and Tony (Michelle); in-laws, Shirley Tidwell, Beverly (Gordon) Lynk, Allan (Elizabeth) MacSween, Blair (Evelyn) MacSween, and Todd (Emily) MacSween; as well as a special relationship with many of his nieces and nephews, especially, Kristin (Matthew) Smith, Brandon MacSween, Blaire MacSween and his two grandnieces, Sawyer and Madison Smith.
Besides his parents, Allan was predeceased by his brother, John Rogers; in-laws, Tom and Mabel MacSween, Max and Diane MacSween, and Joe Tidwell.
Special thanks to the many VON nurses who cared for Allan, especially Helen Sweeny. Also a very special thank you to Dr. Blair Williams, Dr. Glen Worth, and the nurses and staff of 4B and the Palliative Care Unit.
